 Now What !!!
Hello Everyone,
I hope you all are doing great!
YSAA was established five years ago on the hope that we -Yemenis- can get together and make a change in our lives and on the lives of others, through communication and virtual activism. I -personally- believe that a lot of things have been achieved through this online community, but not to the level of expectations at the time of YSAA antecedents.
Some of you may respond with a dissent voice, and some may agree a little bit to what i just said, but the fact is still that we succeeded in creating a virtual community that hoped for a change and "tried" to do something about it.
A lot of people come here on daily bases to read or to see what is going on with the YSAA people, but no one writes, and if we stop sharing our knowledge and thoughts, this place is destined to die... and ultimately will become "Foreclosure".
Now, that's not what I, or my other two colleagues YSAA administrators Waleed and Osama, wish to happen. We would love to keep supporting the forums, technically and financially, but if no one is using it for the benefit of Yemen and Yemenis around the world, why would we just waste the time and effort to keep the whole thing around?
I believe that this website has benefited a lot of people, and I am short on words that can show the appreciation for every single member here who helped and who supported YSAA so far. Many members have showed a great commitment toward this small community, and tried to help, I wholeheartedly want to thank them for all of that, but the question that I want to ask now is : Now What??
I agreed with Osama and Waleed that we should discuss this with all of you. What do you think should be done with YSAA? What is your opinion? And what would you want to gain out of this intellectual community?
Do you want to participate as a committee member to create and to support a new vision for YSAA? Do you want to take over?
We want to hear you out; we would love to use YSAA for bigger goals that go beyond these screens, goals that can help Yemen move forward in all aspects, by you.
Please, take five minutes to share with us what you think should be done, and what your visions can be for YSAA.
Best regards,
Ameen A. Sanad

 Re: Now What !!!
Finally someone has decieded to take action. I was wondering when you guys will realize and wake up from the long deep sleep you have sunk into. I have been a long time reader and observer of the forum. Never actually participated , just observing and reading the interesting fruitful contributions of some and the not so much of others. Lately the forum has been going through a dull phase, I keep checking it hoping that some talented and productive people will come back and start sharing their thoughts. But apparently everyone has lost interest or simply got tired of the same old subjects and fights that this forum lately became famous for. I agree with the dude above, that something has to be done. Let’s all think together about how can we make this place a productive, and profitable place that can help us and help our country. Or let’s just simply close it, and cherish its memory

 Re: Now What !!!
Salam:
As I had mentioned earlier in an email, I don't want to see this website shutdown for any reason. It's our legacy that we'd like to continue.
I think this forum can get back to its orginial activity when most members were actually students. This is not the case now; that is, most of us are probably "ex-students".
So, what we need to do is advertize the YSAA to new students ( I don't know how we're going to do that ).
There maybe other things to do that will revive the activity in the forums, but this needs collaboration in thinking.
Bottom Line: shutting down is not an option ==> we can switch to a more convenient hosting company and see what we can do to bring life back to the forums.
Salamz

Maybe that will give us an insight into the unbalanced ratio of readers vs writers in this forum

 Re: Now What !!!
Making this active, or keeping it online is not the case... What i am talking about is to have a cause for this place.
I agree with soontobemom or momtobesoon to some extent.
For example, why don't we use this place to exchange knowledge... why did we stop in the first place?
Was it because we were just trying to chat, entertain, or make friends, or is it that the forum structure does not provide a clear map on how, where, and when to share knowledge and intellectual thoughts...
I would love very much to hear your comments on how we can change the structure of the forum to enbale all of us to share and to write more....
let's talk
Thanks

 Re: Now What !!!
Like all good things in life, they must come to an end. YSAA is not progressing and it has been at a static phase for quite sometime. If left that way, the positive side to it will soon and hastily fade and people will not remember it for what it was, that is, an educational, intellectual and interactive forum but for what it is now and that is a drag with dead end, brick walled conversations. There is a need for renewal but more importantly for fresh change which would make YSAA different to the conventional notion of what Yemen and Yemenis are like and that is ‘’stuck in a time bomb’’. The YSAA team have delivered and they have delivered well and now it is time to let someone else or yourselves for that matter produce something different, bigger and more dynamic even if that means closing it down for something else. Closing it down is not a disaster but the cycle of life, you are moving on and so should YSAA so embrace that and take it to its full potential.
Best of luck

 Re: Now What !!!
Indeed, this has been in my mind for a while now. Have been extremely busy with work, life and etc. lol (if you didnt understand the joke then you its ok) interest is still there, but people are simply getting busier (now employees instead of students ), and they have spouses and children to attend to. I have few ideas for the YSAA in mind. Overall, posts and topics are seasonal and change with progress of time. we have discuss a lot of topics, and members are getting to a stage where they really cant find a topic to discuss. BTW this is a great website. I dont have fears that it will die, and will work to prevent it from happening.

 Re: Now What !!!
Aslam alikum, I am against the view that this forum should be closed. I believe that it shouldnt be closed because we 'the current students' need the opportunity to discuss ideas and share knowledge with other Yemeni students. This will not only help us in finding people that we can associate with but will also develop our awareness of our country situation and maybe motivate us to help in someway. I agree with brother Waleed in saying that the forum needs advertising; luckily I found it by chance but that doesnt happen with everyone and many yemeni students remain unaware that there is a virtual community like this which they could become part of and gain much from. I have a few ideas of how we can advertise the forum to new yemeni students (like myself), but inshallah i will come back later to mention how we can do so. (p.s please excuse me if i made mistakes, im too tired to check what i typed) yallah salam
