Post Education and teacher's day
Happy Teacher's day in Yemen. As an educator my self I would like to take a moment to honor all those educators in Yemen. If you can share a small story of a teacher that really made a difference in your life. (positive or negative)

I think for me it was Al-Astath Ahmad from Taiz in fourth grade. Those days, there wasn't much good Yemeni teachers. Most of the teachers were from Egypt and Syria. I also want to thank those teachers for doing Educational Jihad in Yemen. I loved that history class so much that I used to read the history chapters ahead of time.

There was another teacher from Taiz Al-Astath Mohamed (very smart) taught me Al-gabr wa Al-handasah in 7th garde. I will forever be grateful. He really gave me a good solid foundation of variables and math. I can remember those lessons and geometry rules until today.

Here are some videos that highlight some of the difficulties teachers face in Yemen.

Ok,

as promised, I am back... At least let's try to get some attention to this thread, away from the heat of "When a Woman speaks"

My favorite teacher was my math teacher, Al-hosami... He was very smart, yet does not care much about his appearance. And he was moqawwit and high school teacher. he studied in Iraq...

Some of the his best moments:

Once he was tutoring the two daughters of an Egyptian doctor who works in a nearby hostpital. They bought him new shoes, and he started combing his hair for the first time ever!!! He came to the class that day, and almost everyone knows why he's looking "better", but one student, Mokhtar, decided to actually tease him about it,

looool. By now, you can tell the guy is really good in Arabic!! He is a great intellectual. The student's face got red, and he almost cried, and we continued in our dars...

Moment two:

He was sitting in the class, smoking a ciggarette, and chewing some qat, while we're copying from the blackboard. Then he started saying

تلك العيناها أصى من ماء الفلجان
تلك الشفتاها أشهى ... من زهر الرمان

which I believe is for Niqar, and sang by Kathem. I corrected him and said, I think it is الخلجان and not الفولجان and he came the other day and gave me a whole bundle of Qat for "supposedly" knowing some Arabic lol... We're still friends to this very day.

And when he was young, a high school student, he was a typical hossami, chews qat a lot, and studies one day to get a full mark. Anyway, when Mohsin Al-3aini's government took measures to limit qat consumption, he said

يامحسن العيني
كل لك كدر بيني*
وبطل القرار *

الناس بالأقمار
وإإحنا رباح أشجار
قيله وخزانه
وكما إشتكون كانه
....
...
..
..
.

* alkader = الكدر
هو انوع من الطعام الذي يصنع من الذرة الشاميه،،، يسموه لقم هند أو مرهي في بعض المناطق

* al-qirrar = القرار
إإصدار القرارات

lool, I have so many fun stories with my high school teachers. I think they deserve a lot wallah. I highly suggest that we take the time this month/week to get hold of those teachers, and give them a call or something to just say thank you. You have no idea how appreciated they will feel...

Happy teacher's day to you YR...

Teacher's Day in Yemen is on the 28th
After Democracy Day.
It is unusual because most countries have it on October 5th, but I guess our government is trying to give teachers a hint that they are the builders of democracy.

I thought the second video was funny too.

Osama, High school was not much fun for me. It was my first years in the USA. It was tough as hell. I had to work hard to skip a whole bunch of ESL language classes and get real English preparation for college.
